25. THE MESSENGER (Bonus Track)
I haven’t beaten a single unfinished game since I got Animal Crossing. This has to end.
I’ll now cookie up a single unfinished game, and play that game AND ONLY* that game until I beat/complete it, whichever comes first. I’ll even un-null the one game that I oh so detest just to finally beat it. Only exception I’ll make is Xenosaga II, since I have plans for that.
* - “and only” doesn’t count games that never end like Animal Crossing or Team Fortress 2, nor does it include online fightan gaems. I’m still up for those any time.

Fuck you Ubisoft. I’m tired of your shit.
Also, fuck you Reggie and Nintendo of America for letting this crap onto your console and not letting Disaster: Day of Crisis come state-side due to it not being a “quality” title.
I got to realizing that while I love both WRPGs and JRPGs, neither have ever struck a balance to the things I like. I mean, I like being able to choose wether I’m a good guy or an evil asshole in my WRPGs, but most of the time, they feel TOO open. In a JRPG, I like following a story, but I would like some more interactivity rather than blindly doing what the game tells me.
Rather, this is the kind of RPG I wanna play.
You star as a silent protagonist, doing whatever plot and events normally happen in a JRPG. Then eventually, you meet the Big Bad of the game. However, the Big Bad actually convinces you, that his way of thinking has logic. Maybe mankind DOES need to be purged. Maybe the Earth WOULD be better off without x magical item or so.
Rather than having to fight against him, I want to JOIN him. And maybe even convince a few of my party members to join me. Sure, I’d be backstabbing the rest, but who cares? I’ve got the most powerful megalomaniac in the world on my side.
Probably the closest thing to this that I’ve played is in Steambot Chronicles, where you can pick whether to help the good guys or help the bad guys, but it’s not really an RPG, so I can’t really count it.
That has got to be the most close final battle I’ve ever had in an RPG.
The battle started out okay. Smithy was being a bitch, but it was nothing I couldn’t handle. Then all of a sudden, things looked bleak. Smithy started casting dual spells, and I was running out of items.
I had managed to force Smithy into a pattern, which lasted a good 5 minutes, when from out of nowhere, he changed to his tank form. Thinking this would be a good opportunity, I left my defenses open and went on the attack!
This is when things turned ugly. I had already used all of my revival items, and I was depending on Peach for healing. Smithy uses his Magnum attack, and kills Peach in one hit. At this point, I had considered the battle lost, but I pressed on! I put Mario and Geno on an all out offensive, using up most of my PP in the process. However, Smithy didn’t shift back from his tank form, and before I knew it, Geno was out too. It was Mario at full HP against Smithy’s tank form, AND his bottom half.
“Ugh, another failed attempt.” I said. Still, for the heck of it, I had Mario do one last Jump on Smithy’s head.
Peach and Geno stood back up. The stage shook, the tyrant had fallen.
I will remember this battle for the rest of my gaming life.
Have to go to a job interview today. It’s my first, so I’m nervous as hell.
